December 8 (Renewables Now) – US solar energy investor NuGen Capital Management LLC on Monday announced the start of construction of a 6.76-MW rooftop solar facility in the state of Rhode Island.

The project, whose capacity is given in direct current, represents the biggest single rooftop solar installation in the state, according to the statement. Renewable energy contractor AUI Partners is installing the array, which will consist of more than 16,000 solar panels, on a warehouse in East Greenwich.

The solar system will produce over 7.8 million kWh of electricity a year, enough to power 639 average local households, and will save 5,534 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year.

The power produced by the installation will be purchased by the Town of Bristol, the Town of Barrington and the Barrington School District under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). The project is due to be fully operational in early 2021.
