July 20 (Renewables Now) – JinkoSolar Holding Co Ltd (NYSE:JKS) today said its large-area N-type monocrystalline silicon solar cells have set a new world record for maximum solar conversion efficiency of 24.79%.

Germany’s Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH) independently confirmed the result.

The record-breaking cell has a practical size of 267.72 sq cm (41.50 sq in). The team used passivating contact technologies, an advanced diffusion system, surface passivation and advanced anti-reflection technologies to achieve the result.

The record efficient cell will be gradually applied to product production, the company noted.

“We will constantly invest in upgrading technologies to achieve mass production, and to lead the way by providing high efficiency and competitive industrial products for our global customers,” said Jin Hao, CTO of JinkoSolar.
