August 17 (Renewables Now) – The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (BOM:500850), or IHCL, has sealed a 25-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with electric utility Tata Power Co Ltd (BOM:500400).

The hospitality company has signed the contract with TP Kirnali Solar Ltd, agreeing to buy enough green electricity to cover about 60% of the consumption of its hotels in Mumbai, namely The Taj Mahal Palace, Taj Lands End and Taj Wellington Mews. The purchased power will offset almost 22.9 million kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year, the announcement says.

“Presently, the association is limited to IHCL properties in Mumbai and we look forward to working closely with them for covering all their facilities across India,” said Praveer Sinha, managing director and CEO of Tata Power.

IHCL has raised its renewable energy mix from 7% to 25% over the last four years, the company noted.
