STEAG to build 244 MWp of solar plants among olive trees in Italy
March 12 (Renewables Now) – STEAG Solar Energy Solutions GmbH (SENS), a unit of German energy group STEAG, is set to build three solar farms totalling 244 MWp in the Italian region of Apulia.
The company said that is will work on the projects on behalf of a “renowned investor”. SENS, through its Italian unit, will fill the roles of project developer, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor and the operations and maintenance (O&M) services provider.
Excavations at the site are due to start at the end of 2021.
The projects are located in the province of Foggia, in an area known for cultivation of almonds, figs, tomatoes and olives. According to SENS, the three solar farms will be fully integrated into local olive groves to reduce water evaporation and consumption.
