Solar + storage project announced for San Diego Blood Bank –

Last week Enel
X said it has partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank to deliver and manage a solar
and battery storage system. By combining onsite solar generation with a battery
storage system, the Blood Bank will be able to self-generate, store and consume
electricity, providing the facility with cost savings and reducing their
environmental footprint.

Under the terms of the agreement, Enel
X will operate the 334-kW/ 668-kWh battery energy storage system, which will be
paired with a 976-kW rooftop and solar carport system.

The system will not only provide shade for the parking lot,
but it will also allow the Blood Bank to charge its mobile operation with 100%
renewable energy. Once complete, the system is expected to generate more than
1,500,000 kWh annually.

The system means that the Blood Bank will be able to power
its operations with stored solar energy when electricity costs are highest,
helping to reduce the organization’s energy spend and focus its resources on
the supply of blood to hospitals within San Diego, Orange, Imperial and Los
Angeles counties.

The system will utilize Enel X’s Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Optimization software to maximize the earnings potential of the project across applications such as bill savings, incentive programs and grid services.

In related news, Enel X North America said it also deployed a 67-MW highly-distributed virtual power plant comprised of JuiceBox smart charging stations, active in California Independent System Operator (CAISO) markets as well as more than 3,100 JuiceNet-enabled smart chargers within local Community Choice Aggregator Sonoma Clean Power’s service territory.
