Enel awarded 420-MW project in Indian solar auction
June 30 (Renewables Now) – Italian energy group Enel SpA (BIT:ENEL) announced today it has won the right to ink a 25-year energy supply contract for a 420-MW direct current (DC) solar farm in India.
The photovoltaic (PV) project was awarded to EGP India by government company Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) under the 2-GW Ninth Tranche of the national solar tender, Enel said.
To be located in Rajasthan state, this project will be Enel’s first solar plant in the country. The company expects to invest around USD 180 million (EUR 160.4m) in it.
The Italian energy group expects to commence operations of the plant by the end of 2021. Once complete, the solar park will be generating over 750 GWh of electricity per year, enough to offset some 681,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
EGP India currently owns and operates 172 MW of wind farms in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
