March 24 (Renewables Now) – BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH will open a warehouse in Poland, encouraged by growth in its photovoltaic (PV) distribution business in the country, the German company said on Monday.

“We’ve seen fantastic growth from small beginnings in December 2016,” notes Lukasz Zaziabl, managing director of BayWa r.e. Solar Systems in Poland.

According to the company, stable legislation, government support and a growing focus on renewables have underpinned continued growth in Poland’s rooftop solar market. By end-2020, micro-installations represented over 70% of the country’s total installed PV capacity.

The 5,700 sq m (61,354 sq ft) warehouse with nearby office facilities is located in Krakow, southern Poland and will open in April. The local service will provide benefits such as less complexity related to currency exchange and shorter delivery lead times. The new facilities will also incorporate a training area.

“Poland is a very important market for BayWa r.e. and it has huge potential for solar energy,” said Frank Jessel, global director of solar trade for BayWa r.e. The company has recently completed 64.6-MWp Witnica solar project, described as Poland’s largest and first subsidy-free solar park.
